Andy has been kind enough to review the above bass.

Well I went up to Moffat on Saturday to collect my Recurve. First impression was "wow, it looks even better in the flesh!) The attention to detail Alan puts into his work is truly amazing! The finish is flawless and the bubinga top has a great 3D effect under the lacquer. On picking it up, I first noticed that it is lighter than my lakland 55-02 and the balance is perfect, whether seated or standing, no neck dive whatsoever. The body is contoured nicely and the pickup placement allows my right hand to fall naturally to my preferred playing position. Best of all, the neck is the most comfortable I have ever played, thanks in no small part to the asymmetrical profile , and the satin feel makes it a breeze to get around on.

I first played it amplified at a rehearsal on Sunday evening, when we were busy attempting to get a dep guit*rist up to speed for a gig this week, so there was not much scope for a good fiddle with the preamp, which I'd been looking forward to. However I got a good usable sound straight away, so I kept adjustments to a minimum as I hadn't had chance to get my head around the pre at that point. I basically got a nice fat P type tone from the neck pickup and some punchy mids from the bridge pickup and blended the two, slightly favouring the bridge, a bit of treble and we had a warm finger style punch that cut through with loads of definition. Subsequent fiddling (at home through headphones) has confirmed that there is such a huge range of tones available that I shall have to spend an afternoon in the rehearsal room experimenting at gigging volume! The AC preamp is by far the most versatile preamp I've ever used although it does require a bit of different thinking from the normal cut/boost system, to get the most from it. The ability to dial in separate tones for each pickup and be able to blend the two together, provide so many permutations that I think its pretty much got all bases covered!(pun intended) It is available to retro-fit to your bass for a very reasonable price from www.acguitars.co.uk check out the site for a far more eloquent description than I could possibly manage!

I can highly recommend giving Alan a call if you're in the market for a custom bass, or new preamp. I didn't think my budget would run to a custom build but I was pleasantly surprised and now I have the best bass I have ever owned and the whole experience has been great
